The Ballroom at McKay wedding venue, nestled in the heart of downtown Grand Rapids, is a venue where history meets grandeur. Photographing Brooklynn and Jake’s winter wedding here was such an honor.

One of the benefits of the Ballroom at McKay wedding venue is close access to Amway Grand Plaza Hotel. Since it was a windy, cold day, we coordinated with the Amway for bridal portraits. The architectural detail of the lobby and the moody interior corridors offered a different editorial scene for Brooklynn and Jake’s portraits.

Located near the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel in downtown Grand Rapids, the Ballroom at McKay is a study in classical elegance. We’re talking soaring ceilings, ornate architectural details, and a ballroom floor that was made for a first dance. The golden chandeliers are one of my favorite features – photographically speaking, they are everything.
The venue’s black-and-white checkered dance floor paired against warm, amber chandelier light creates a contrast that is genuinely cinematic. For a February wedding, the richness of that interior warmth made every single frame feel intentional and alive.

In conclusion, for couples considering a Ballroom at McKay wedding in Grand Rapids, know this: the venue itself is a great creative collaborator. It brings drama, romance, and scale so that your photographer can focus entirely on capturing you within it.
Brooklynn and Jake’s day was proof of that. Beautiful people, a beautiful space, and a February evening that somehow felt like the warmest night of the year.
