Middleton Place in Charleston, South Carolina, is one of my favorite wedding venues. It’s truly a magical place that has it all: lush gardens, breathtaking water features, beautiful sculptures, stunning architecture, and so many places to choose from as the backdrop for your ceremony.
Choosing to get married at Middleton Place can make your wedding feel like it’s straight out of a fairytale. The dreamy 18th-century plantation sits on one of America’s oldest formal landscaped gardens, carefully preserved and maintained for generations. This historic landmark, its meticulously cared-for gardens, and its abundance of lush outdoor backdrops make for an unforgettable romantic setting for anyone’s dream wedding.
Middleton Place offers couples a wide array of indoor and outdoor spaces for wedding ceremonies and receptions. Each location has unique and exquisite views of the Ashley River, the beautiful landscapes, or one of the many gardens. When choosing an outdoor setting, you can enjoy some of the landscapes lined with century-old oaks draped in Spanish moss, sculpted terraces, and vibrant seasonal flowers. The indoor venues in some historic buildings offer bright and airy spaces perfect for those who prefer indoor wedding.
About the Gardens
The gardens are spread out over 65 acres and were designed and inspired by the French formal settings of the 18th century. The gardens followed the classic design of the gardens located at the Palace of Versailles and Vaux-le-Vicomte.
Guest Accomidations and Activities
The grounds have its own award-winning Inn for your guests to stay in one of the 55 rooms, each with modern touches yet historic finishes that seamlessly blends in with the beautiful surroundings. Each guest at the Inn also receives complimentary general admission to the Middleton Place National Historic Landmark for their length of stay. There are many activities for guests including kayaking the Ashley River, horse back riding, relaxing by the pool with a good book, exploring and interacting with the animals in the stables, and more.
Catering
The Middleton Place Restaurant onsite caters for your wedding with a delightful true-to Charleston roots-inspired menu using fresh, local, seasonal, and organic ingredients sourced from Middleton Place Organic Farms right on the grounds.
